About the Artist
Artist: Genae Girard
Location: Austin, Texas

Genae's art is inspired from her love of Labrador Retrievers.  Her two
Labradors, Mesa and Bailey are the reason she started painting.  A
plaintiff for the ACLU’s widely publicized case against Myriad
Laboratories and the U.S. Patent Office, Genae Girard is fighting the US
patent office granting a company a patent on the breast cancer genes
BRAC1 and BRAC2.  She has been
featured in the NY Times, CBS
News, USA Today, World Magazine, as well as many other news
programs.  Her humorous portrayal of getting through breast cancer, as
well as her zest as a patient advocate, has landed her in the role of a
stress reduction mentor and speaker for many organizations.
Before her diagnosis in July of 2006, Genae was a self-proclaimed
overachiever.  In 1994, at age 26 Genae started a veterinary
distributorship located in Texas.  During the 13 years with the company, it
was listed three consecutive years in the Austin Business Journal's "50
Fastest Growing Private Companies," and  #82 on the Inc. 500 list of
"America 's Fastest Growing Private Companies." Genae has developed
a new way geared towards reducing stress in the analytical "Type-A"
personality.  The website, located at
www.ScreamingZebras.com, teaches
executives "switches" to turn off stress and anxiety which are responsible
for a multitude of health problems.  She is a member of the "
Pink Ribbon
Cowgirls" a breast cancer support group of women under forty and a
member of the counseling group
Cancer Connection.  In her spare time
she maintains her passion for painting acrylics and donates her dog
paintings to charities raising funds for animal shelters and breast cancer
groups.
